Mainly info about shows

Welcome to the sixth Music Monthly newsletter, marching merrily along now. This month’s news is dominated by upcoming shows regarding three of the usual projects: Mala Nota, Red and The Rebels, and Channels. In addition, a show with Juston Hargrove is added to the calendar.

The Mala Nota album previously mentioned continues the mix process with a studio in Mexico City. Ok, let’s admit it: this is a long-distance relationship. Everything takes longer. Last week Mala Nota filmed four songs, one of which will be submitted to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Contest. Looking forward to sharing that video, which is being edited locally, next month.

And the band has a number of shows on the calendar:

On April 22 I get to play the low notes with Juston Hargrove at Sportsfest.

Prior to the Great Pause of Corona, the Juston Hargrove Band played regularly at many venues around town. One moment that stands out took place during an early-in-the-week show at Hole In The Wall. Towards the end of the set, and night, we played “Little Wing.” As Juston played the intro, a, couple dragged their chairs from where they were sitting at the back of the room, and placed themselves front and center at the edge of the stage. From this vantage point, they were looking up at Juston—local elders soaking in a Hendrix experience. It was beautiful.

April 22
Sportsfest at the Krieg Complex

Tentatively scheduled for 5:00 PM, one set

Juston Hargrove: the man can SING.

Channels returns to the sanctuary at Central Presbyterian Church on April 14. Once again, I’ll share this video from the show last October. I’ll also share this link to Todd’s Kickstarter for producing this show. This time, there are perks for donors. Please consider making a donation, which essentially makes you a co-producer in a silent, but effective way. We’re setting a high bar for transportive music, “exquisite sound” (in quotes as I’m quoting an unsolicited comment from someone in the October audience), and paying the musicians fairly.

We are Channels, and so are you.

Thanks again for reading. I hope to see you at a show. Do say hello. Feel free to send questions or topics you might like to hear about from me. Next month I’ll include something to stick in your ear.

Peace, Love, and Art,
Ralph
